Casey Hathaway turned up after FBI members, volunteers and U.S. Marine professional search teams looked for him after he vanished from his grandmother’s home last week.

Yahoo.com reports that as his family awaited updates, a neighbor walking her dog heard aloud cry from the bushes. It was Casey, crying and tangled in thorn bushes.

His condition was surprisingly good. While he was being treated, he told his family a bear kept him safe for two days, according to a Go Fund Me page set up by his grandmother “at the public’s request.”

The page reports the benevolent bear kept him alive.

“He told us that his best friend the bear was with him to help keep him safe,” the page says. “Thanks to God’s mercy he came home to us alive and well.”

The young boy came away with only a few bumps and scrapes. While his family admits they aren’t sure how accurate his story is, there are reports of bears helping lost youngsters stay alive in extremely rare cases.

And however it happened, his grateful family is indebted to have the young boy back home — however he was able to stay alive during those harrowing days when he was apart from them.
