Heroes on the Water is a world-wide organization helping veterans relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors. The Coastal Bend chapter helps veterans during these kayak fishing events every month.

Many veterans speak of Heroes on the Water as a way of therapy. Army Veteran Joshua Meyer, began Heroes on the Water during a hard time in his life. It wasn’t until he met with this organization that he realized what he had been missing.

"You get out there you just paddle, you fish, you know and through the camaraderie and being out with fellow brothers and sisters, you actually start to, you know, mentally and physically kind of heal yourself while you’re out and about," says Meyer. Meyer participated every month for a year, then knew he wanted to be a part of Heroes on the Water and help other veterans just like him.

Veterans do not have to pay anything to kayak fish at these events.
