One week after complaining to KRIS 6 News about a homeless camp that they say was trashing their neighborhood, people are pleased to find that the eyesore has been mostly cleaned up.

The trash was piling up in a wooded area near the NAS/Corpus Christi exit off SPID. In addition to being an eyesore, nearby residents said it may have been a haven for theft. One man told us he found some of his belongings that disappeared from his home in that camp.

The area was in a much different condition on Monday afternoon. Most of that trash is now cleared out with the exception of a few shopping carts along the sidewalk. There is also a small amount of trash in some standing water.

Another big concern was that this mess was close to a daycare center, Small World Child Care. The owner tells us that she has been in constant contact with Code Enforcement about the camp. She said she’s seen what looked like private contractor crews cleaning things up over the last several days.

She also says homeless camps are an ongoing problem in that area, but police and code enforcement officers have always done a great job of responding to their concerns. She says she’ll continue to call them until all of this most recent mess is cleared out.
