CCISD is now accepting applications for its new tuition-based pre-K program. On Thursday, Mireles Elementary School held a registration for parents to enroll their kids.
Mireles is one of three locations holding the classes. The others will be held at Dawson Elementary School and Jones Elementary School.
Patricia Rodriguez stopped by Mireles Elementary to enroll her four-year-old son. She says her son is currently in daycare but she believes he’s ready for a different school setting.
"He’s ready for more friends. He’s ready to explore the school," Rodriguez said.
The program provides kids like Rodriguez’ a research-based curriculum, a full school day, plus the opportunity to learn from a certified teacher.
Elisa Escamilla also enrolled her daughter in the program. After doing a year of research, Escamilla says the program was the best option for her daughter’s schooling.
"That one-to-one interaction amongst her peers is going to be very good and crucial for her learning ability," Escamilla said.
The cost of the program is $520 a month, but parents enrolling their children on Thursday say they’re content with the cost because they’re certain it will better prepare their little ones for the future.
"I’m looking forward to him being prepared for the big school," Rodriguez said. "Because he’s always talked about wanting to be the big boy."
CCISD says there will be another registration opportunity in July.
