For those interested in the cosmetology field, there’s now a new program opening in Corpus Christi.

As a part of the Southern Careers Institute, there is a new cosmetology program apart of the curriculum, called the Southern Star Salon.

At this salon, students will learn the many different services that make up a salon, such as nails, hairstyling, waxing, and facials. Aside from learning the different services, students will also learn how to run and operate their own salon.

“You are gonna be completing the business section, sanitation, safety for your clients, everything that is gonna pertain to marketing, getting yourself out there, professionalism, it’s all gonna be covered in the program,” says Southern Star Salon’s instructor, Kelly Thurmon.

Every student will be provided with a complete tool kit that includes, mannequins, books, clippers, hair curler, hair straightener, nail kit, facials kit and more.

Enrollment has already began and there are already limited spots for the first class.  The first course will begin July 3rd.

Classes will be Tuesdays-Saturdays from 9am-4pm

Services will be open to the public about 6-8 months after the first course has began.
