CORPUS CHRISTI – Thursday, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day, and the Coastal Bend Blood Center’s blood mobiles will be deployed throughout town, in hopes that you will give the gift of liquid life.

Because the majority of the Blood Center’s donations come from high school students during the school year, donations are statistically low during the summer months.

Just twenty minutes of your time could potentially save someone in a medical crisis.

"It helps cancer patients, trauma, people in accidents that we see every day, burn victims," Ashley Ramirez said.

The Coastal Bend Blood Center is asking for your donations on World Blood Donor Day to stock the shelves with all blood types.

"Unfortunately they don’t really understand just what the Blood Center does for our community until it hits home. We hope they don’t wait until that happens. Friday, at a local hospital, we had an individual that completely depleted one of our blood types within less than 24 hours," Ramirez said.

There are just a few basic qualifications to keep in mind before rolling up your sleeve. You must be 17 years or older and weigh more than 110 lbs. From there, you may donate every eight weeks.

You can find a list of Thursday’s blood drives on the Blood Center’s events calendar.
