Helicopter rides could be coming Corpus Christi soon. A plan is in place for local company, Espejo Helicopters, LLC to begin offering tours at Water’s Edge Park.

Locals and visitors alike, say they’re excited for the fun that could be coming to town.

Jared Leos, a visitor from Arlington, Texas, says Corpus Christi already has much to offer, so a helicopter ride would be the icing on the cake.

"That would be so cool," Leos said. "To go in a helicopter, you oversee the water, you oversee the boats. Just picturing the landscape, I get excited about it. Like sign me up, I’m ready."

Espejo Helicopters along with the City of Corpus Christi have been working on the plan for about a year. The opportunity comes with six different customize-able routes to choose from. The most popular is the tour that begins at the bay front, taking riders through downtown, over to Portland, and back. For $80 and about 15 minutes of your time, visitors can enjoy some of the best views Corpus Christi has to offer.

David Blakeslee, who was born and raised in Corpus Christi but now lives in Idaho, says he’d jump at the opportunity to see the bay front view from a helicopter.

"I think it’d be just wonderful, and I think people down here would really appreciate having a little something extra to do when they come downtown. It’d be great."

Blakeslee adds, in the 40-some years he hasn’t lived in Corpus Christi, things have changed, and he’d be excited to see those changes from above.

"I think it’d be great to see it from the air again," Blakeslee said. "It’s grown so much since I’ve been here. It’d be nice to see it."

He and many visitors alike tell us they’re excited for the new experience that could be coming to town.

"Me and my 23 family members will be here in Corpus to ride that helicopter for sure," Leos said.

City Council must approve the plan before tours begin. The next council meeting is May 22. If approved, Espejo Helicopters tells us tours could begin as early as mid-June.?
