Learning opportunities at the pre-K level have just gotten bigger for CCISD. Starting in the fall, students in the district can enroll in a tuition-based pre-K program at select schools.

CCISD says the tuition-based pre-K will be offered at several south side elementary schools for about $520 a month. The district says there is a demand for the program there, plus campuses have the room to accommodate more kids.

Rachel Ginette, a mother of three at Mireles Elementary School, says it’s another great opportunity for children to learn.?

"I think it helps a lot to have a good place that you know your kids are going to be safe at and to be watched over," Ginnette said. "And of course they’re going to be learning what’s necessary for kindergarten."

As part of the program, kids will go to school for a full day with a research-based curriculum, a certified teacher, and a paraprofessional.

Ginnette doesn’t have a child in pre-K, but she says picking up her kids in one place at the same time, is worth the monthly fee.

"Its a lot but I’m not sure it’s really out of line with normal child care," Ginnette said.

Other parents say, when it has to do with their child’s education, cost doesn’t matter.

"I’ll pay. I’ll pay for this because education is the priority. So I think it’s a good thing."

The location sites for the pre-K program have yet to be determined. CCISD will release more information as open enrollment approaches. Open enrollment is expected to begin in May.
