CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There's been an expansion of the U,S.S. Lexington display at the Corpus Christi International Airport.
Today, airport and museum officials unveiled a model airplane display.
It features remote controlled models of the P-40 Warhawk and the Mitsubishi Zero which fought air battles over the Pacific during World War II.
“The P-40 Warhawk represents all aviators during World War II,” said Steve Banta, executive director of the U.S.S. Lexington Museum. “It’s a very iconic aircraft, flew around Pearl Harbor, flew with Flying Tigers. And its primary adversary being the Zero, that these two aircraft represent those battles and those who fought and died for our country.”
The model airplanes are on display at the airport terminal.
They were among four airplanes donated by a local doctor who built and flew them as a hobby.
