CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: After our reporter Roland Rodriguez's feature, Access Ford bought the remaining 180 tickets in order to help CASA reach its goal.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA, is teaming up with the Corpus Christi Hooks to host CASA night at the Hooks.

The Corpus Christi Hooks will be closing out their four-game home series with the Frisco RoughRiders Thursday, and at the same time, will help support CASA of the Coastal Bend.

Your purchase of either $9 corner box seating, $11 reserved seating or $13 field reserved seating will help CASA, as a portion of ticket sales goes to help recruit and train volunteers in this Coastal Bend organization.

CASA will have an information table on the Concourse at Whataburger Field for game attendees to learn more about the organization.

Join CASA for this special evening as they celebrate wonderful individuals who are advocating for the best interests of children in foster care and enjoy an evening of fun at the ballpark.

CASA Recruitment Needs:

CASA volunteers are working hard to serve as many children in foster care as possible however they can't keep up with the number of children coming into care. Every day a child from Nueces County is removed from their home.

Last year there were 1,166 children in foster care across the Coastal Bend. 147 CASA volunteers served 327 of those children.

Unfortunately 839 of the Coastal Bend children in foster care were without a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) to speak up for their best interests in court, help build family connections, support them as a positive role model during a challenging time in their lives, advocate for educational and medical needs and help in finding them their forever home.

In order to significantly reduce the amount of children who are in foster care we need to significantly increase the amount of volunteers who can give their time to give these children a chance.

Their goal for the next Pre-Service Training is to have 15 new volunteers take the CASA Oath.

Training days are Sept 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26.

Morning session 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Every Wednesday CASA hosts 45-minute, non-committal information sessions at noon at 2602 Prescott.

If your faith group, civic group, school or work is interested in hosting a CASA info sessions please call 884-2272 or email Diana@coastalbendcasa.org.
