CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Police were called to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Airline Road just before the Holly intersection around 10 pm Sunday.

According to police, a man inside an apartment started cursing and yelling obscenities at his neighbors. Residents called the police and when officers arrived the man became very irate started banging on the walls and threatened to use deadly force if officers didn't leave.

More police officers were called out to the scene, and a short standoff ensured.

An hour later, officers breached the apartment and took the man into custody. He told officers that he was suffered from a medical condition and he was treated at the scene.

Because of the nature of the threats, the man was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Neighbors told police the man was a veteran. Police say the man didn't brandish a weapon, but because of the nature of the threats, nearby neighbors were evacuated from their apartments for their safety as the situation unfolded.
