ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS — A man accused of allegedly assaulting a woman is now facing steeper charges.
According to the Aransas Police police department, Jacob Lawler, 23, assaulted a woman in early July.
Police say the video shows Lawler brutally assaulting his girlfriend on a second-story patio. At one point, he dangles her over the banister before dragging her back down the stairs.
After a review of the surveillance video, the San Patricio County District Attorney Sam Smith decided the assault charge against Lawler was inadequate. Smith instructed investigators to proceed with a felony attempted murder charge against Lawler.
Now a 2nd-degree felony warrant has been issued for Lawler's arrest. Investigators believe Lawler fled the Aransas Pass area or is hiding with close associates.
Police also announced the US Marshals Office is now assisting the Aransas Pass police department. Detectives warned that hindering the apprehension of a fugitive is also a felony.
