Del Mar College held its annual Scholarship Reception on Wednesday night at the West Campus.
The DMC Foundation has awarded 1.742 scholarships totaling $1,715,000 for the 2019-2020 school year, and longtime donors Gene and Ellen Seaman announced a $100K gift that will go to help students looking to earn a high-school equivalency degree. The gift doubles an existing $100K endowed scholarship that has benefitted 55 students since the couple established it in 2005.
"At every stage of my life, someone was there to give me a hand up by seeing the potential in me and helpingme believe in myself," said former DMC Foundation trustee and businessman Gene Seaman said. "These scholarships are my way of honoring those who helped me, and continuing their investment in the potantial of others."
Process Technology major Matthew Pritchard received the endownment this year.
"Right now I'm working two jobs while going to school full-time," he said. This scholarship helps me continue my education and show my children that anything is possible."
