CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Corpus Christi is hosting their annual Dia De Los Muertos Altars of Remembrance.
CCPATCH, the local non-profit handling the Ritz restoration, decorates the nearly 90-year-old theater every year in honor of Dia De Los Muertos. The public is invited to come check it out for free and possibly leave a donation for the Ritz.
"For a donation, a visitor can get a paper with a printed marigold and write a note to their past loved one and post it to the skirt of Katrina, the giant skeleton puppet in The Ritz," their event page says. "After tons of marigold cards are posted it looks like Katrina is sitting in a garden of marigolds!"
Ritz representatives encourage people to visit the theater before it begins major renovations. The recent renovations are made possible by a $100,000 matched grant from the Corpus Christi Tax Increment Re-Investment Zone or TIRZ.
"This may be the last time The Ritz is open for awhile since construction is starting in November on the roof," their event page says.
