Blood Center offers several opportunities to donate this week

and last updated

This week, the Coastal Bend Blood Center put out an urgent call for donors of all blood types.

In addition to several traumas in the area for which blood was required, the need is always greater around the Spring Break and Easter holidays, when blood donations are typically lower due to many being away on vacation.

Over the next few days, there are several ways to help.

First, visit www.coastalbendbloodcenter.org to view various blood drive locations and then choose one to stop by and make a donation. You can also call the blood center at (361) 855-4943  to make an appointment to donate at their facility (209 N. Padre Island Dr.). Walk-ins are accepted as well.

All blood donors will receive a Smoothie King coupon and a blood type t-shirt.

Second, consider eating dinner Wednesday between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Bella Luna Downtown (429 Schatzell St.). The Italian restaurant will food and happy hour specials, and will be donating partial proceeds to the blood center.

Third, take part in Saturday’s 3rd Annual “Battle of the Breweries: A Pint for a Pint” event. The blood drive serves as a friendly competition between local breweries to see who can collect the most pints of blood at their blood drive. The center is hoping this event will provide a fun and convenient way for donors to give the gift of life. In exchange for a pint of blood, every donor will receive fun incentives such as a pint of beer and more.

Locations include:

  • B&J’s Pizza (6662 S. Staples St.): Noon to 4 p.m.
  • Lazy Beach Brewing (7522 Bichon Dr.): 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • B&J’s Pizza (6335 S. Padre Island Dr.): 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Lorelei Brewing Company (520 NAS Dr.): 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Every donation helps save multiple lives in our community.
