His is a story of resilience and redemption.

At just 5 years of age, Derek Clark’s mother and stepfather abandoned him at an emergency psychiatric facility. With his biological father in prison, Clark spent the next 13 years of his life contending with rejection, humiliation, aggression, emotional distress and overwhelming anxiety.

Then, in spite of the tragedy in his early life, Derek discovered that he had great amounts of inner wealth. He made a choice to tap into that, rather than letting the trauma of his past define his future.

On Thursday, September 13th, the author of seven books and man behind the Rapping Dad videos (with over 200 million views), will be the featured speaker at The 19th Annual Ark Gala, which will be held at The Borchard Fairgrounds (1213 Terry Shamsie Blvd. in Robstown).

The program — which will also include dinner and both live and silent auctions — begins at 6:00 PM.

Licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth is a non-profit group providing long-term care for 61 children and youth, from newborn through the age of 17, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The gala’s proceeds pay for services that make a difference in the lives of those at The Ark.
