The 4th Annual Mandela Day Corpus Christi celebration is coming to Heritage Park!

This one-day multicultural event is designed to honor Nobel Peace Prize recipient Nelson Mandela, who passed away in 2013. It will also highlight the diversity in the Coastal Bend under the theme, "Education and Literacy, Volunteerism and Participation."

This celebration will once again provide diverse cultural performances, as well as feature educational and civic organizations showcasing services being offered in the community.

Along with a Kid Zone area, there will also be food and live music, including performances by the Kingdom of Christ Choir, Latin Talk, Sister Shay, the Aztec Dancers and Splendiferous.

Mandela Day essay contest winners will also be awarded.

Those who wish to participate are asked to bring slightly-worn shoes for the International Shoe Drive, a fundraiser for the creation of micro-enterprises in developing nations.

Over the last few years, the Mandela Corpus Christi Committee has donated thousands of dollars for student supplies, toiletry items and other essentials to transient/homeless students and students of the AVID program.

Mandela Day Corpus Christi is a free event, and will take place from 5:00 to 11:00 PM on Saturday, July 21st.
