Local politicians joined the community for a "Walk With A Doc" over at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

On the first Saturday of each month, TAMUCC hosts the morning walk, inviting locals to hit the hike and bike trails at the university alongside area doctors. The goal, to promote a healthy lifestyle.

This weekend’s event also coincided with Local Politicians Day, which brought out a number of local leaders to join in the walk. State Rep. Abel Herrero, County Commissioner Mike Pusley and City Council members Ben Molina and Greg Smith were among those that joined in the event.

Around 40 took part in the walk, all to get hands-on with their health.

"They get out here, they get to walk with their doctors. We can have discussions about healthcare programs, and just kind of promote even just getting up off the couch. Things that can make people have healthier lifestyles because that’s what’s most important," said Dr. Justin Hensley, President with Nueces County Medical Society.

If you didn’t make it out, the monthly walks start at 8 a.m. at the TAMUCC water tower, the first Saturday of every month.
