CCPD investigates officer-involved shooting

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that sent one man to the hospital in critical condition.

The incident happened around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, in the Misty Winds Mobile Home Park in the 5900 block of Ayers Street.

According to Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle, the officers were responding to a disturbance and when officers arrived, they were advised the incident was a home invasion.

Two officers confronted a suspect inside of a home and Chief Markle said both officers gave commands to the suspect. The suspect then pulled out a firearm and both officers shot the suspect according to Markle.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two victims who were inside the home at the time of the incident, were not hurt.

Officers say in all, three people were allegedly involved in the home invasion.

The suspect who was shot was sent to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Police say 19-year-old Anthony Hinojosa and 18-year-old Marco Molina were both charged with burglary of a habitation with intend with another felony.

Markle said the victims are safe and they are thankful for that.

"I do believe that they saved lives tonight," Markle said. "It was a critical incident"."

As in department policy with any officer-involved shooting, two officers were placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is still ongoing.
