CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Game rooms are popping up across the city and the state of Texas wants local leaders to regulate them.

But it's not going to be simple -- or easy -- to police these establishments.

There are an estimated 18-20 game rooms here in Nueces County.

And now, the state has given the county the power to regulate them.

But how will they do that? It's a question we took to Sheriff John Hooper, who says right now he doesn’t know.

“Basically - the way I understand this law – it’s not so much a new law granting the authority,” Hooper said. “It basically removes the restriction of the ability of the County Commissioner's Court to regulate these gaming rooms in the county.”

One thing is clear: Hooper is not a fan of these establishments.

And the idea will be to get guidance on what separates a legal game room from an illegal game room.

It’s a question we’ll answer tonight at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Six Investigates.
