Despite front today; look for increasing humidity in the coming days

A weak frontal boundary pushed into the Coastal Bend this afternoon and allowed for some sunshine for our inland communities and kept a fair amount of cloud coverage for our coastal communities.  Despite the front, temperatures maxed out in the lower 70s, above the seasonal average high of 67.

Tonight, look for the clouds to increase in coverage as the front breaks apart near the Coastal Bend.  Temperatures in the northern and inland sections of the region will fall into the upper 40s, elsewhere and in Corpus Christi in the lower 50s.  Wind: NNE 5-10 MPH

Christmas Eve will feature a good mix of clouds and sun with only a stray shower.  Most of the shower activity will remained confined to the Gulf waters.  Highs will push the lower 70s.  Wind: SE 6-12MPH

The weak front will retreat back to the north and through our area as a warm front by Monday afternoon and into Christmas Day.  This will lead to very warm, for this time of year, temperatures on the 25th with a high near 77 under mainly cloudy skies and some stray showers for the arrival of Santa.

A large upper-level storm system will dig to our west and that will also tighten up the pressure gradient here beginning on Christmas Day.  So to recap, Christmas Day will feature increasing winds, warm temperatures, high humidity, stray showers, and mainly cloudy skies.

More wind on Wednesday with highs in the upper 70s before the next Pacific cold front moves through late in the day and early Thursday.  Some heavy and strong storms will be possible just north of the Coastal Bend, we’ll monitor closely.  If you are traveling to northern parts of the state on Wednesday, might want to monitor the weather closely for your travel plans.

For now, it looks like for New Year’s another cold front will come down and deliver a decent dose of cool air to bring in 2019 and more light showers.  We’ll fine tune the forecast as we get closer to that time frame.

Happy Holidays!
