Some of us saw some rather heavy showers and thundershowers over the weekend, courtesy of a weak frontal boundary that has stalled across south-central Texas.  Coupled with the afternoon seabreeze, there were some very spotty locations that saw in excess of one to one and a half inches or rain over the last 48 hours.

Minus the cloud coverage and the fairly strong winds, there was a noticeable amount of haze in the skies too.  That is courtesy of Saharan Dust that continues to feed into the Lone Star State riding from the coast of Africa all the way over the Atlantic and into our skies.  Do expect it to continue to be hazy Monday and Tuesday, but start to taper off by the middle of the week.

The tropics continue to be quiet in the Atlantic, the Pacific has calmed down too, as the dust and strong upper-level winds have kept much of the basin quiet for this time of year.  Still, still urge residents not to become complacent as it only takes one of these monster storms to make it a busy year.  We will continue to monitor very closely.

Upper-level low in north Texas will continue to push slowly northeast and take the rain chance with it in the short term.  High pressure off in the Gulf will ensure our tropical tap of moisture stays in place to so beginning on Tuesday we’ll keep only a stray seabreeze shower in the forecast.  Most of us will stay dry with afternoon highs near seasonal average in the middle 90s.

Also, given the low pressure to our north and high pressure in the Gulf our winds will stay at least breezy through most of the week all the way through the weekend.  This will keep the bays choppy to occasionally choppy and increase the rip current risk.  Boaters, mariners, and beach goers are urged to use caution when out in the waters.

Have a great week and stay cool.
