CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Before the COVID-19 pandemic, international students had to take the majority of their classes on campus, as opposed to online.

As the pandemic worsened, schools closed, and all students had to take all of their classes over the Internet.

On Monday, President Trump announced a partial return to the previous policy which left some international students concerned about their safety.

"I know that has made students pretty nervous," TAMUK Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Allen Rassmusen said.

Rassmusen said the school is being flexible in their application of the new rule.

“We don’t want any of our students to be disadvantaged," he said. "We have to have the flexibility for all of our students to achieve their objectives here.”

They're doing that by only requiring international students to take one, three-hour course on campus. The rest of their course load can be taken online.

“Hopefully what this will do is, some of our students will see it and calm them down a little bit," Rassmusen said.
