In honor of May, preservation month, the Ritz Theatre had a few guest speakers sharing stories and information about preserving local historical buildings.
The event went down Wednesday evening and was followed by a reception at Rockit’s Whiskey Bar & Saloon
Speakers included Rev. Clifford Edge and son, Kippy Edge who talked about the History of the Ritz Theatre and other local theaters. President of Friends of Old Bayview Cemetery Association, Karen Howden spoke about the restoration of the historic cemetery and Voices of South Texas cemetery tours. Retired Del Mar Professor, Dr. Norman Delaney, talked about Whiskey and the Battle of Corpus Christi in 1862. Anita Eisenhauer, Nueces County Historical Commission Chair, spoke about the 1914 Nueces County Courthouse.
The goal is to restore the historic building back to its original splendor, so it can be an artistic nexus for the Coastal Bend.
May is preservation month, and the Ritz Theatre is on their way to raising 100 grand to raise the roof. Once they do, the city’s TIRZ program will match the $100,000 to complete phase one of the Ritz restoration project.
