The City of Corpus Christi’s Great Texas Warrant Roundup isn’t over but it’s already proving to be a success.
On February 15, the city announced it was kicking off the Great Texas Warrant Roundup campaign during a news conference at City Hall.
The city said it would kick off the campaign with an amnesty period from February 18- February 22. During that time, anyone could pay or set up payment plans to pay off old tickets without getting arrested. Between February 23 and March 9th, law enforcement agencies would begin arresting anyone who had outstanding fines.
According to Corpus Christi Municipal Court Services Director Gilbert Hernandez, since February 18, the city has collected more than $1 million in fines. Also, more than 6,100 tickets have been taken care of. That’s 2,000 more tickets that were taken care compared to last year’s warrant roundup.
Meanwhile, area law enforcement agencies will be out through March 9th looking for people who haven’t taken care of their fines or warrants.
