Due to recent heavy rains, the city is canceling water restrictions that were put in place earlier this summer.

Interim City Manager Keith Selman announced the order to rescind the restrictions as combined total in area reservoirs approach 50 percent.

Recent rains have also prompted the release of water at Lake Corpus Christi, as river forecasts predict water in the lake to exceed the capacity of the Wesley Seale Dam. Water releases are scheduled to begin later today on a limited basis.

The city says the goal for water releases are to maintain the integrity of the dam while keeping as much water as possible in Lake Corpus Christi reservoir and minimizing any downstream flooding of the Nueces River.

City officials say they work together with partners to monitor incoming floodwaters using river gauges and other equipment to make responsible water release decisions.
