A bill passed by the Texas Senate is raising new concerns about discrimination.

Even corporate giants like Facebook and Google are calling on state lawmakers to reject this legislation.

Senate Bill 17, sponsored by State Rep. Charles Perry of Lubbock, would allow anyone with a state license – like lawyers, doctors or real estate agents – to deny their services based on religious beliefs. It still has to pass a vote in the state house.

Members of the local LGBT community are concerned that it will allow some licensed professionals to discriminate against them.

We’re talking to the LGBT chapter and we’ve also contacted various licensed professionals and Perry.

We’ll have more on this tonight on KRIS 6 News.
