Babysitter accused of causing infant's possible fatal injuries

Posted: Updated:
FLORIDA -

(NBC) A five-month-old boy is not expected to survive after suffering severe abuse by his babysitter, according to an arrest report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

The boy's mother dropped him off with a friend, 24-year-old Maria Antonio Jose, in Bonita Springs who agreed to watch him while his mother went to work.

This was on May 15th.

Jose called the mother around noon saying the baby choked while drinking milk.

Investigators say the baby's injuries are not consistent with that story.

The baby boy had a catastrophic brain injury, eye bleeding, and a ripped retina.

Jose eventually admitted to investigators she shook the baby violently for two minutes, frustrated the baby was crying.
