Over 1,000 volunteers take part in 'Big Event'

Posted: Updated:

Over 1,000 volunteers from the Coastal Bend took part in the annual "Big Event" in Corpus Christi.

In its 10th year, the Big Event volunteer day was hosted by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and its participants produced more than 4,000  hours of volunteer work.

It wasn't any one charity that benefited from the event, however, but many. Among them, Food Bank of Corpus Christi, the Learning Garden at Grow Local South Texas, Coastal Bend Friends of Aquatics, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center and Kids Against Hunger.

Joining volunteers for the first time this year were folks from the National Islander Alumni Association, which sent volunteers out to other cities including Houston, Austin and San Antonio.
