A Marvin Baker Middle School Student was named champion of the 2018 District-wide Spelling Bee on Saturday.
Eighth Grader Jazelle Saligumba beat out the competition after 26 rounds.
Saligumba will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.
Arjun Mattewada, a 5th Grade student at Windsor Park Elementary was named runner-up.
Corpus Christi Independent School District hosted 48 contestants from 36 elementary and 12 middle schools.
