Royce Chadwick & Willis Wilson share a common bond

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI -

Islander men's head coach Willis Wilson and women's head coach Royce Chadwick have been working together leading their own programs for the past six years. "Royce and I have the most unique relationship of any coach that I ever been around who is coaching on the other side," said Wilson.

"He is helpful in everything we have tried to do," said Chadwick. "You have an idea you want to bounce off him, he is always there. He is the best human being I have ever been around as a men's basketball coach."

With offices across the hall from each other and they frequently visit about all sorts of stuff from life in general to basketball. "He is just fun to be around," said Chadwick. We kind of have an open door policy with each other so we spend a lot of time just talking about stuff."

"He is a bit of a trickster," said Wilson. "Every now and then he will play jokes. He keeps me on my toes and it's fun."

It has been ten years since Calallen became the first area high school to get artificial turf at its football stadium. Now, it's time to replace it thanks to a 40 million dollar plus bond issue that was passed by voters back in November. A new all weather track is also being installed at Phil Danaher Field. But it's just not athletics which benefits from the bond issue.
