Honor a Hero: Vietnam veteran to be laid to rest

The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery is inviting the public to honor the service of a Vietnam veteran on March 7 at 11 a.m.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Tom Arthur Hayes, served at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

According to Trevino Funeral Home, no family will be in attendance at the service.

The Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery is, inviting the public to the funeral as part of their commitment to ensure that no veteran is left behind.

The cemetery says they are coordinating the delivery of full military honors for the funeral, and have asked the Patriot Guard Riders of South Texas to provide a flag line.

The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery is located at 9974 I-37 Access Road in Corpus Christi. 

Hayes' body was found in the Corpus Christi Marina on February 17. Investigators believe he owned a boat docked there.
