With the new landscaping from the 2012 Bond Project, there are numerous palm trees, shrubs and other plants along Ocean Dr. However, many residents along Ocean Dr. are concerned with the amount of landscaping, fearful that it will disrupt the beautiful view of the ocean.
Patricia Polastri, gathered up signatures for a petition to give to City Council, to hopefully revise the landscape.
"Ocean drive is an ocean view not a palm view," says Polastri.
Polastri feels that once the vegetation has matured that it will completely destroy the view from the properties. She also feels that these bring unwanted guests, such as roaches and rats. Polastri even caught a rat in her yard that she believes came from the new landscaping, "and now from two palms that I used to have on my street, I'm going to have 35 palms, and that additionally will increase the housing for these roaches."
Polastri presented her proposal to City Council on February 27, about revising the landscaped areas on Ocean Dr.
The City did tell KRIS 6 News that they will get a consensus from the neighborhood to see if the residents do want to revise the landscaping, they will then move forward with the results.
