Celebrations on schedule every weekend for African American History Month

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI -

February is African American History Month and every weekend of the month in 2018 you'll find one local group celebrating (and you can join too).

Music, dance, poetry, fashion, food and fellowship are the highlights this month over at Auvil's Sweet Nothings at Everhart and Alameda. Each Saturday in February, organizers will host a gathering open to the public to celebrate African American History.

Next on the group's agenda, an event celebrating children and youth.

"Next week, we'll also have the children and youth from all over the city, and they'll be doing poetry, singing, praise dance...it's just going to be a lot of fun," Cheryl Goffigon, an event organizer, described.

All of the group's events are open to the public. Next Saturday's (February 17) will run from 2 to 5 p.m.
