Roads all across Corpus Christi are getting a face-lift, including Tuloso Road. The section between Leopard Street and Interstate-37 has been under construction for nearly a year. In less than a month, the city says the project will be complete.
For residents in the area, it’s news they’ve been waiting to hear for a long time.
Rita Rosales, who owns a home on Tuloso Road, has lived there since the 1970’s. She’s seen the progress workers have made and said she’s looking forward to the finished project.
“It’s been an eye sore, but once it’s completed, it’s going to look nice,” Rosales said. “I’m excited it’s going to be over with.”
Rosales and other residents will enjoy some big improvements. Those include five-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road, updated utilities, new asphalt, and dedicated left-turning lanes at intersections.
A small community nearby has also been impacted by the yearlong construction. Fred Luna says he drives on the road every day. Now that construction is almost over, he can’t wait to enjoy some of it’s perks.
“It’s going to be great for the neighborhood,” Luna said. “We can, be able to walk out there with our kids, with our dog, ya know, walk around there.”
The new upgrades will also help better drain water after it rains. Residents say the road would flood after a heavy rain, but that shouldn’t be a problem anymore because crews have also made drainage improvements to the roadside ditches.
“I’m ready for it,” Luna said. I know the whole neighborhood is ready for it.”
The City says Ocean Drive construction is also expected to be completed soon.
