New businesses downtown optimistic about spring season

CORPUS CHRISTI - If you’ve been downtown recently, you’ve probably noticed several new businesses coming to life.

In fact, seven new businesses have opened in the Marina Arts District since early 2017.

Robert Cooper opened his cocktail bar, The Gold Fish, in October.

“I like dive bars, and there's a lot of good ones in Corpus, but I also like variety. So being able to have another option to get a good craft cocktail is what we emphasize here,” Cooper said.

Just around the corner, Lesley and Ben Lomax bought the former RTA Bus Station and turned it into the popular “Bar Under the Sun.”

“We’re both born and raised here and kind of biased toward downtown, but we are super excited to see the growth of downtown and what it's doing for the city as a whole,” Lesley Lomax said.

Downtown Management District officials say they are optimistic about an increase in foot traffic in the months ahead, and these new businesses ventures just add to the eclectic bar scene downtown.
