How to get the most out of your trip to the salon

CORPUS CHRISTI -

Valentine’s day is coming up, and that means many will be heading to salons to get a special treatment for the special day. As a customer, there are things you should know to make sure you make the best of your experience.

First, take a look around the salon. Is it clean, is the furniture well kept, or is there trash? The answers could be the difference between a bad experience and a great one.

Susan Stanford, with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), said taking note of the salon’s condition, is the first step in making sure you get a good treatment.

“If it’s dirty, walk out,” Stanford said. “There is too many salons to patronize a dirty salon.”

The TDLR helps keep salons up to code by inspecting at least once every two years. There’s a long list of things salons need to make sure they are doing to pass inspection.

Some of the requirements include clean work stations and tools, hung licenses, labeled products, and a foot spa cleaning log. These are just a few of the things inspectors look out for. Failure to do any, could result in some pricey fines.

The TDLR is making sure you are getting the most bang for your buck, but as a customer, there are some precautions you can take too.

If you have a skin rash, or open wound, skip the salon. Also, don’t shave your legs 24 hours prior to a pedicure. Doing any of these, could put you at risk.

“That’s just a place where bacteria can nest in and cause you a serious infection.
