PADRE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE -
Prescribed burning has ended at Padre Island National Seashore (PINS), allowing all campgrounds to reopen.
As we've reported, crews at the Seashore have been conducting a series of controlled burns along both sides of Park Road 22. The fires were intentionally set to burn away grasslands that could otherwise have provided fuel for wildfires to spread from the park to nearby residential areas.
Due to the fire operations, PINS officials closed some areas of its campgrounds and temporarily closed roadways as needed from Thursday, February 1 to Saturday morning, February 3.
At 8:10 a.m. Saturday, park officials announced on Twitter that controlled burns had ended and that all campground areas had been reopened.
