You can leave the shoes at home when you attend the Barefoot Mardi Gras parade and festival at Padre Island on February 10th.
Beginning at 11:00 AM, a family parade takes place along the beach between Whitecap Blvd. and Nueces County Park Rd., near Access Road 5.
More than 60 Mardi Gras themed floats will travel to the Briscoe King Pavilion, featuring a host of colorful characters in some of the best costumes you'll see this side of New Orleans. The fun continues at Padre Balli Park until 5:00 PM with live music, exhibits, artists and food trucks. There will also be a costume contest and a Kidz Fun Zone for children.
Admission is $5, with children 12 years and younger admitted free.
On Saturday evening, an adult-themed party -- the King & Queen's Ball -- will run from 7:00 PM to Midnight at the Veranda Restaurant & Bar at Schlitterbahn. A new Cajun menu will debut this year, along with a shrimp boil with Rollin’ Tide Boil Company. Enjoy Caribbean funk and New Orleans style blues from the band Splendiferous. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and attendees must be 21 years and above.
Tickets are $30 if purchased before February 5th ($40 after that date) at Schlitterbahn or online at www.barefootmardigras.com.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Island Foundation Schools and the Port Aransas Independent School District.
