City offering free Xeriscape Symposium this weekend

Posted: Updated:

The impact of Hurricane Harvey continues to be seen through much of the Coastal Bend. Many need look no further than their own yard for a reminder of the damage done.

With that in mind, there may be some who want to use the destruction as an opportunity to reshape the yard, and consider Xeriscaping.

Simply put, Xeriscape involves the conservation of water through creative landscaping. It is a process that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water from irrigation.

Intrigued? If so, the City of Corpus Christi would like to satisfy your curiosity.

On Saturday, February 3rd, landscape experts will take part in the 2018 Xeriscape Symposium, "Texas Strong: Xeriscape Gardening Post Harvey." It is happening from 8:00 AM to Noon at the Del Mar Center for Economic Development (3209 S. Staples St.).

Those who attend will be taught how to make the most of their landscape following the devastating hurricane that hit our area last summer. Ideas will be shared regarding weather trends, plants and soils. Those who attend can also ask the experts about tree selection and adaptive and native plants.

Door prizes and refreshments will be provided.

Admission is free, however, seating is limited. You are asked to pre-register by contacting Gabriela Morrow at (361) 826-3583 or GabrielaM@cctexas.com.

On-site registration will also be available, if space allows.
