CORPUS CHRISTI -
Chicano artwork is on display at the Art Museum of South Texas thanks to the efforts of comedian and actor, Cheech Marin.
You might know Cheech Marin from his work as a comedian, film and television actor; but he's also a knowledgeable art collector and a huge promoter and collector of Chicano artwork.
His personal collection has been regarded as one of the best in the world and as of Thursday a special exhibit from that collection is on display at the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi.
Marin himself made an appearance for the premiere of the new exhibit, which features artwork by Texas artists, and he says its an example of some of the best of the best in Hispanic art.
"It's big and growing, you know, it was undiscovered and because of my position as a traveler, I travel to various...everywhere...I get to discover these people who have not been discovered before," Marin explained.
In all, 26 pieces from Marin's private collection are on display at the museum beginning Friday, January 12. The exhibit runs through April.
