A total of 76 cold-stunned sea turtles were found yesterday in the coastal water of South Texas.
According to Dr. Donna Shaver, the head of Sea Turtle Science and Recovery with the Padre Island National Seashore, most were found alive in the Upper Laguna Madre.
Shaver says an additional 30 turtles have been found today, but are not yet included in the Seashore’s total tally because they are still being documented.
Cold temperatures are expected through tomorrow, and Shaver says the more cold stunning is expected.
Since December 8, a total of 419 green sea turtles have been recorded as cold-stunned in Texas.
If you happen to come across a cold-stunned sea turtle, call the Sea Turtle Lab at 361- 949-8173 extension 226.
