CCPD: Man drives Jeep into home after dropping cell phone in vehicle

Posted: Updated:

A man was ticketed for distracted driving after he ended up driving his Jeep through the side of a home Friday morning.

According to officers on scene, the man was driving south on Airline toward S. Padre Island Drive. The driver told officers he dropped his phone, reached down to get the phone and then lost control of the Jeep.

The driver took out a bus stop sign and the fence of a business nearby Airline and McArdle. The driver then somehow slid across the street and ended up crashing through the garage of a home nearby.

No one was in the house at the time and the driver was not injured, according to officers.

The man will be cited for using his cell phone while driving and failing to stay in his lane.
