The man who was allegedly driving drunk when he caused a chain reaction crash that killed a mother of two has been identified.

25-year-old John Andrew Alvarado was arrested on multiple charges, including intoxication manslaughter, two charges of intoxication assault and accident involving injury or death, and is being held at the Nueces County Jail on a $245,000 bond.

The accident happened just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning on Saratoga between Weber and Kostoryz.

Alvarado was driving eastbound on Saratoga when he clipped one car and rear-ended another, which forced that car into oncoming traffic. The car, occupied by a 41-year-old mother and her two children, was then struck by a car in the oncoming lane.

The mother was pronounced dead at the scene. The two children were also injured and were taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in critical condition.
