Peck family continues 42-year tradition of handing out toys

Posted: Updated:

There were smiles all around this Christmas Eve. The Peck family continued a 42-year tradition by giving toys to children and families in need.

Every year, the Peck family travels around Corpus Christi bringing holiday cheer. The family rents a U-Haul truck, loads it up with new toys, and brings Santa to hand out goodies to children who have been good this year.

Each Christmas Eve, they make a number of stops to houses around the area. One of those houses is on Hancock Ave. in Corpus Christi. Each year, dozens of kids line up, waiting to see Santa.

Jessica Reyna, brought her three children to enjoy some of the fun.

"I love it. I love it because it's all about Christmas, it's all about giving," Reyna said. "And Santa comes, and they get all excited. It's awesome."

There were plenty of toys to go around. The Peck's, who own several businesses in the city, believe this is their way of giving back.

Alexis Peck, one of the family members who helps with the toy giveaway, says it's a privilege to hand out toys every year.

"It just kind of warms your heart, just knowing that you're able to make just a small difference in their life," Peck said. "It's just really a privilege to kind of just brighten up their Christmas."

This year, the family says they are making almost ten stops.
