CCISD hopes to name new mascot for Hamlin next year

Posted: Updated:

Corpus Christi Independent School District is hoping to name a new mascot for Hamlin School next year.

In September, the district pulled the rebel mascot after someone emailed to complain about it.

Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez tells KRIS 6 News the district is still in the process of coming up with a new mascot. He says the district is still receiving ideas from students and community members Hernandez said, "We're still in that process. Once we narrow that down, we'll come back and allow the students and the (Hamlin) community to select the mascot we will move forward with." That decision could be made after the Winter break.

Hernandez said, "We just want it to be clearly communicated. We want to make the options available and we want the students to feel good about what they're agreeing to for years to come."

If anything sooner than that, we bring it to everyone's attention.
