A malfunctioning air conditioning unit forced Starbucks to shut down its SPID location.
A malfunctioning air conditioning unit has forced one Starbucks location to shut down.
Around 9:15 a.m., employees smelled smoke inside the Starbucks at 5601 South Padre Island Drive and Staples. They called 911. The Corpus Christi Fire Department came out and the power was shut off to the coffee shop. Firefighters later found the air conditioning unit on top of the building was malfunctioning. Moments later, the power to Starbucks was restored and the smell of smoke returned. The Corpus Christi Fire Department was called out a second time.
In the meantime, Starbucks has been closed and there's no word yet on when it will reopen.
