A meeting to discuss a recent controversial health insurance change for Del Mar College employees was held today.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is Del Mar's new insurance provider, but many employees are losing their primary health care provider because the provider doesn’t accept that insurance.
The situation has gotten to the point that it's impacting operations at Del Mar College.
“Many of them are calling and saying they're experiencing changes with their regular physicians,” said Del Mar College President, Mak Escamilla. “They're being dropped from their insurance and the like, and as such experiencing many difficulties with receiving care.”
The college president also says that even he learned two days ago that his doctor had dropped him.
Blue Cross Blue Shield representatives are coming in next week to meet with campus employees.
