The future of a proposed Park Road 22 bridge project is in question as the company behind the project is ordered to sell the property.
Months ago, as we've reported, the group Upper Padre Partners, which owns land around Schlitterbahn Corpus Christi it originally intended to develop into a recreational area likened to San Antonio's Riverwalk, filed for bankruptcy. Since then, the land has been on the verge of foreclosure.
Now, Councilman Greg Smith reports that a judge is allowing part of the property to be foreclosed on and said it will be up for auction on Tuesday.
"My concern is if the city goes and does the bridge, we have the canal that connects it and with (that) being in a bankruptcy situation we don't have good clarity on that," explained Smith. "After Tuesday, we'll know then. Then the tract will not have the specter of bankruptcy."
The auction will take place Tuesday afternoon outside Nueces County Courthouse. We'll keep you updated on the outcome.
