Today is #GivingTuesday. This is a "global day of giving back," where everyone is urged to donate to local, national or international charities.
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) faculty and staff will spend their day giving back, including helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey. More than 150 staff and faculty members will split into groups to help hurricane recovery efforts in Rockport, Port Aransas and Corpus Christi.
Hurricane recovery is not the only way TAMUCC will give back on #GivingTuesday. Groups of volunteers will help groom horses and clean trails at the Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center, provide love to animals at the Gulf Coast Humane Society, help with gift wrapping at Gloria Hicks Elementary, work a food service line in the kitchen at Loaves & Fishes, sort food donations at the Coastal Bend Food Bank and sort donations and decorate for the holidays at Corpus Christi Mission 911.
This is the fourth year that TAMUCC will participate in #GivingTuesday. The group of volunteers has grown from 48 in 2013 to more than 150 this year.
If you are looking for a way to help on this #GivingTuesday, consider helping a local student with their education. St. John Paul II provides 75% of their students with at least half or more of their tuition, and they need your help.
